Hi Wellesley!
My name is Ashley Amoabeng (she/her/hers) ’21, and I am running for the position of Director of On-Campus Affairs (DOOCA) for the 2020-2021 academic school year. As DOOCA, I would chair the Schneider Board of Governors (SBOG) and be the liaison between administration, SBOG and Wellesley as a whole. I have been a member of SBOG since my first year and would like the opportunity to continue and improve what the board has done in the past.
Since SBOG’s goal is to promote social life on campus via large and small scale events, my platform consists of convenience, clarity and collaboration.
Convenience: I strongly believe that in order for SBOG to achieve our desired goal of catering to the Wellesley community, we need to work harder and more efficiently at making our events more accessible. From the beginning of thought processes of an event to the day of execution, my priority as DOOCA is making sure that the student body is in mind and their convenience is taken into account. One way I plan on achieving this includes meetings with the Office of Accessibility and Disability Resources in order to ensure that all events are accessible.
Clarity: One of the main concerns people tend to have regarding SBOG is the level of secrecy perceived. One of my goals as DOOCA would be to ensure that Wellesley is kept in the loop of how the board operates and the extent of work. As the org that receives the majority of funding from Student Organization Funding Committee (SOFC), I hope to clarify how and why the funds are allocated in the way that is presented.
Collaboration: SBOG, as a whole, has been working towards more collaborations. So far, this past year alone and in the near future, we have worked alongside some orgs on a few of the events, which have included Cabin Fever and Canoodle n Noodle. Due to the nature of SBOG’s limited board size, we cannot expect to cover all the diverse viewpoints; however, collabing with more orgs will alleviate this distance because SBOG would be able to reach more of the Wellesley community through those orgs.
My experience as a member of SBOG greatly influenced my decision to run as a candidate for DOOCA. Thank you for your time and consideration. It would be both an honor and privilege to serve as your next DOOCA, and I hope that to earn your support!
