Hello beautiful people! My name is Isabel Ortiz. I use she/hers pronouns and I’m a proud member of the Class of 2022. I have been a senator for the past two years and have learned so much about what’s happening on campus. One of the greatest changes I have seen in the past two years was the creation of the ARC and CORA committees, the subsequent creation of the Orgs Chair position, and the transition to WEngage, which all happened the same year! This is a transition that I believe isn’t complete yet, and that’s why I’m running for Orgs Chair.
For those of you who are new to this campus or don’t know the specifics of College Government, here’s a brief background on CG elections. Every year, the student body elects nine representatives to serve in the College Government Cabinet, including CG President, Chief Justice, Orgs Chair and more. Once elected, each student will be an active member of the CG cabinet and will be in charge of their own committee. For example, the Orgs Chair is in charge of Committee on Organization Recognition and Affairs (CORA) and a member of the CG cabinet.
The Orgs Chair is in charge of recognizing orgs, as well as offering recognized orgs resources like recruitment opportunities and training sessions for e-boards. With the help of CORA, the Orgs Chair plans and discusses events that can benefit org leadership, potential solutions to problems related to orgs, the transition to WEngage and recognition of new orgs. The Orgs Chair is the go to person for any orgs on campus, and I want to make sure that every org gets the support they need.
This year was a little rough since the creation of Orgs Chair and the transition to WEngage landed in the same year. Many orgs had to deal with technical difficulties of WEngage and had to navigate a new system to publicize their events. As Orgs Chair, I want to help the campus transition to WEngage and to make sure that every org feels supported.
As of this moment, there are still people who aren’t aware that WEngage exists or that there’s an app where you can check what events are happening throughout the week. As Orgs Chair, I will have multiple events on WEngage for org leaders and students. I will make sure that every student knows all the fun and useful features this service provides.
I have been passionate about orgs ever since I arrived on campus, from planning Lulu After Dark as an OC, being present in meetings when Presence (the WEngage provider) was chosen and now running for Orgs Chair. I believe this position has so much potential and I have so many ideas for how it can grow, including more campus takeovers and leadership opportunities.
Just a reminder, voting will take place via WEngage on March 12. If you are wondering how, WEngage has campus-wide forms that anyone can create, and so OSI will be making one for the CG elections and it will be available during Election Day.
