Boston Sanders Rally, Chaubunagungamaug Nipmuck denied environmental review request, Guy Fieri restaurants open in Boston

Chaubunagungamaug Nipmuck denied environmental review request of Long Island

On Feb. 24, a Suffolk district court ruled against an environmental review of Boston’s Long Island requested by the local Chaubunagungamaug Nipmuck tribe. In the fight against the opioid crisis, Mayor Marty Walsh proposed that a rehabilitation center be placed on the island. However, the island, and others surrounding it, were historically used to imprison indigenous people. The Chaubunagungamaug Nipmuck tribe hopes to ensure that no burial sites or Native American remains are built upon and that the deaths that occurred on the island are respected. Boston officials say they are hoping to conduct an archaeological survey in place of an environmental review.

Crowds pack Boston Common for Sanders Rally

On Feb. 29, thousands attended a rally for Bernie Sanders at Boston Common. According to the Sanders campaign, around 13,000 people were in attendance. The event was held just days before the whole state is slated to vote this Tuesday. Massachusetts is one of 14 states that partake in “Super Tuesday,” which is the day when the highest number of states hold their primaries or caucuses. Massachusetts is represented by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another Democratic candidate, and has a total of 91 delegates that will be pledged to various candidates at the Democratic Convention in Milwaukee this July.

Guy Fieri will open two new restaurants in Boston’s theater district

Guy Fieri, Food Network star and mayor of Flavortown, is opening two restaurants in Boston’s theater district this summer. The two restaurants will replace the Explorateur Cafe and Bar, which is located on 186 Tremont Street. Fieri, an Emmy award winner and author of a New York Times best-selling cookbook, “Guy on Fire,” noted that “The people of New England, and specifically Boston, have always been important to the greater food landscape,” and says that he’s “stoked to be bringing Guy’s Kitchen + Bar to Boston as well as Chicken Guy!, servin’ up hand-breaded chicken tenders and 22 scratch-made sauces.”
