Wellesley track and field competed in the New England Division III Championships at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts this past weekend. Helen Anderson ’19 opened the competition for The Blue on Friday with her 17th place finish in the hammer with a toss of 39.22m. She followed with an incredible performance on Saturday, earning all-region honors and breaking her own program record in the shot put. She finished fifth in the event with a mark of 12.19m, breaking her previous record of 11.59m set at last weekend’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships. NEWMAC champion Cathy Chen ’19 finished fifth in her heat of the 100m hurdles and 12th overall and then took 17th in the 400m hurdles. Grace Cowles ’21 set a new personal record in the 1500m, finishing 12th overall with a time of 4:42.22, and Eva Paradiso ’20 took 15th in the 5000m with a time of 19:23.01. Qualified athletes will represent Wellesley on May 10-11 at the New England Inter-Collegiate Amateur Athletics Association (NEICAAA) All-New England Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Wellesley golf took second place for the first time in program history on May 4 at the 2019 Liberty League Championship in Schenectady, New York. The team finished with a program-record two-day score of 649, only 22 strokes behind champions New York University (NYU) who finished with a score of 627. A program-high four golfers earned Liberty League All-Conference honors: Aine Kenwood ’22, Audrey Lin ’22, Chansie Yang ’22 and Hannah Blonder ’22. A strong performance by Wellesley golf, the Liberty League Championship was their final competition of the season.

After defeating Emerson and Babson with scores of 8-0 and 5-4, respectively, Wellesley softball headed into Saturday ready to continue their fight in the 2019 NEWMAC Softball Championships. Hayley Moniz ’22 pitched a shutout game against Emerson while Gen Brittingham ’21 sealed the game against Babson with a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning, positioning The Blue to take on top-seeded Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, The Blue’s hopes to continue deeper into the tournament were dashed by their 3-2 loss against WPI after a walk-off single in the seventh inning. Wellesley softball finishes the season with a record of 13-17-2 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC Championship tournament.

Wellesley crew took second place overall on Saturday at the 2019 New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond. The Blue finished with 80.25 points, trailing champion Bates who had 93.00 points. Wellesley advanced to the Grand Final in each event and has now finished in the top five for 12 consecutive seasons at the New England Rowing Championships (NERC), including back-to-back years as the runner-up, according to Wellesley Athletics. Wellesley’s only gold of the day was in the final only Fourth Varsity Eight event against Williams, Tufts, WPI and Amherst. The Blue finished over 10 seconds ahead of the second-place boat for a time of 7:36.437. Crew will return to action on May 12 for the National Invitational Rowing Championships.
