Cross Country

On Saturday, Sept. 21, Wellesley’s cross country team traveled to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the 6K Bowdoin Invitational. The Blue placed second overall falling short to Coast Guard. Eva Parasido ’20 raced her way to a fifth place individual finish as the team’s best finisher. Parasido’s time of 23:24.9 was also good enough for a collegiate 6K personal record. New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) runner of the week Grace Cowels ’21 finished in 10th place. Members of Wellesley’s cross country team will have another chance to compete on Oct. 5, when they travel to Keene State for the Keene State Invitational.

Field Hockey

On Saturday afternoon, Wellesley’s field hockey team traveled to Butler Stadium for a conference opener against Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Wellesley fell short to WPI 5-2. The Blue’s two goals were scored by Maggie King ’21 and Amy Kate Williams ’23. Carson Dennis ’21 had two assists. The Blue are now 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC conference. Wellesley Field Hockey will return to the field on Sept. 24, as Wellesley hosts Bowdoin College at 5 p.m. 

Golf

Members of Wellesley’s golf team competed in the Mount Holyoke College Invitational this past weekend at The Orchards Golf Club. The Blue finished fifth in the final team standings on Sunday, Sept. 22. Going into Sunday, the Blue was one stroke behind Ithican and six strokes behind Hamilton, but after dropping 15 strokes on Sunday, they jumped up to fifth place over all. Ryan MacVicar ’20 dropped three strokes in the competition to lead the Blue to their finish. Members of the Wellesley Golf team will return next weekend to compete at the George Phinney Jr. Golf Classic at Middlebury College. 

Soccer

This past Saturday, Wellesley Soccer hosted Smith College for a conference opener. Gabriella Nicolosi ’23 scored her first collegiate goal as the Blue fell short to Smith 2-1. The team currently holds an overall record of 3-4-0 and a conference record of 0-0-1. The team will have the chance to boost its standings on Sept.  24 as they travel to Brandeis for an evening match up. 

Volleyball

On Sept. 21, Wellesley Volleyball improved their NEWMAC conference standings to 2-0 with a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College. The Blue’s win marks their 18th consecutive win at home. Overall, they are 8-3. Nikki Jensen ’21 led the way with 25 kills on attempts, and Molly Weik ’21 had 9 kills on 12 attempts. The Blue will host Wheaton College in a NEWMAC match up on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
