Field Hockey
Last Saturday, Wellesley Field Hockey topped Clark in a 3-2 overtime victory. Carson Dennis ’21 scored the game-winning goal to lift the Wellesley Blue to a 6-4 overall and 2-1 NEWMAC record. Hannah Maisano ’20 scored The Blue’s two other goals during regulation. Janelle Sullivan ’21, goalkeeper for The Blue, made three saves to help The Blue come out on top. The Blue will return home on Oct. 8 to host Babson in a NEWMAC match-up.
Golf
Last weekend, Wellesley Golf competed in the 2019 Williams Invitational in their final match of the fall season. As a team, they placed fourth overall in the tournament. Sisters Ryan MacVicar ’20 and Caroline MacVicar ’23 swept the Liberty League Women’s golf awards for the week. Ryan was named Liberty League Performer of the Week for the second time in her Wellesley career and Caroline was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week. Ryan placed eighth as The Blue’s top performer and Caroline tied for eleventh. The Blue will continue their season in April at the Vassar Invitational.
Soccer
Last weekend, Wellesley Soccer fell to Coast Guard in a 4-3 overtime match. The Blue returned from a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals during regulation. Deyanira Ibarra ’20 scored twice for The Blue and Julia Jung ’20 scored The Blue’s third goal. Wellesley goalkeeper Olivia Reckley ’20 finished the game with a career-high 14 saves on 18 shots on goal. The Blue will return on Oct. 8 as they host Wheaton in a NEWMAC match-up.
Volleyball
Over the past week, Wellesley Volleyball swept Smith 3-0 and Springfield 3-0 to improve their undefeated NEWMAC record to 6-0. Lauren Gedney ’21 had a match-high of 11 kills against Smith to lead The Blue to their victory. Gedney was named the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career. In the two games played by The Blue during the week, Gedney recorded 27 kills and a .382 attack percentage. The Blue will continue their season on Oct. 8 at Clark University.
Cross Country
Last weekend, Wellesley Cross Country earned runner-up honors at the Keene State Invitational. Grace Cowels ’21 finished in tenth place with a PR time of 18:43.90. The Blue finished short to Williams. Eva Paradiso ’20 finished 13th and Maya Bradbury ’22 followed in 15th place as The Blue’s top three finishers. The Blue will return on Oct. 19 when they travel to Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn. for the Connecticut College Invitational. This will be The Blue’s final race before the NEWMAC Conference Championship.
