Swim & Dive
Last Saturday, Wellesley Swim & Dive opened its season with a 165-129 NEWMAC win over Wheaton College. Elizabeth Park ’23 led to the Blue earning three individual victories in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM. Park was also named NEWMAC Swimmer of the Week. Jessica Wegner ’22 won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke while Hannah May ’21 won the 100 freestyle and Maggie Haley ’20 finished first in the 200 butterfly. The Blue will continue their season next Saturday, November 9 with a dual meet at Simmons.
Field Hockey
Last Saturday, Wellesley Field Hockey beat Wheaton College in a 2-3 NEWMAC victory. Caitlin Campbell ’22 scored the game-winning goal with just under two and a half minutes left. Hannah Maisano ’20 and Ellie Williams ’22 scored the other two goals for the Blue. The Blue improved their record to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in NEWMAC. Wellesley (no. 5) will open the NEWMAC Field Hockey Championship on Tuesday November 5 at Springfield (no. 4).
Volleyball
Last Thursday, Wellesley Volleyball finished off their regular season with a 3-0 win over Brandeis University. Nikki Jensen ’21 finished with 11 kills on 17 attempts to lead the Blue to victory. Lauren Gedney ’21 and Nicole Doerges ’22 had ten and nine kills respectively. The Blue now stand 21-4 overall and 9-1 in NEWMAC as the second place seed for the tournament. On November 5, the Blue will host number 7 seed Worcester Polytechnic Institute to open up the NEWMAC Championship tournament.
Cross Country
Last weekend, Wellesley Cross Country took home third place at the NEWMAC championship meet. Grace Cowles ’21 led the team by finishing in eighth place. Cowles competed the 6K course in 23:05. Keiko Hilmo ’20 finished 12th in 23:15 and April Chu ’21 finished 15th in a PR of 23:34. All three earned All-Conference honors for the Blue. Cowles earned this honor for the second year in a row. Wellesley will return to compete on November 16 at the 2019 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
