Construction Updates

Associate Dean of Students Carol Bate provided updates on two of the main construction projects the school is currently undertaking. She reported that the accessible front entrance to the Stone Center is now available for use while work on the elevator in Billings is ongoing. Although the permanent handrail at the Stone Center still needs to be put in place, students and faculty can now use the entrance. Dean Bate explained that construction on the elevator will be ongoing through January and is slated to wrap up in the early weeks of February. 

Academic Council Resolution Passes 

The College Government’s resolution to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day instead of Columbus Day on the second Monday of October passed with 92 percent of present senators voting yes and eight percent abstaining. The resolution allows College Government representatives who sit on Academic Council to highlight support for the change among both senators and the greater student body. 

SOFC

SOFC chair Madeline Carter ’20 proposed an amendment that would allow the committee to alter the categorization of a student organization’s funding when organizations want to change the amount of funding they’re receiving from College Government. Currently, organizations apply for yearly funding when they apply for recognition as a club through CORA and choose to request either no funding, a one-time grant of $125 or full funding. Additionally, under the pre-existing policy, if organizations want to change the funding that they initially applied for, they need to be re-recognized as a club. According to Carter, this amendment would streamline the funding process.
