Swim & Dive

Wellesley Swim & Dive improved to 2-0 with a 188-112 victory at Simmons College last Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium. The Blue won 12 of 16 events to secure the win. The Blue swept both the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Jessica Wegner ‘22 finished first in the 100 Back and 50 Free with winning times of 1:01.56 and 25.67 respectively. Elizabeth Park ‘23 swept the breaststroke events for the second consecutive week, winning the 100 in 1:07.82 and the 200 in 2:26.85. Wellesley will continue their season on Nov. 23 when they travel to Mount Holyoke for a 1:00 pm meet. 

Fencing

Last Sunday, Wellesley fencing posted a perfect 7-0 record at the Vassar Invitational at Walker Fieldhouse in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Blue picked wins over Stevens, Fairleigh Dickenson, Yeshiva, LIU, Hunter, Sacred Heart, and Haverford. Lauren Park ‘21 was 13-1 in sabre to lead the Blue while Julia Calventus-Coveney ‘21 finished 13-3 with the epee squad. Isabella Stewart ‘23 finished 11-2 leading the foil squad. The Blue are now 13-0 overall. Wellesley fencing will continue their season on November 17 at the first Northeast Fencing Conference Meet hosted by Brown University. 

Volleyball

Last week, Wellesley Volleyball fell to Emerson College in the NEWMAC semi-final game. Emerson rallied in the fifth game for a 3-2 win over the number two seeded Wellesley. Lauren Gedney ‘21 had 19 kills to lead the Blue while Nikki Jensen ‘21 and Nicole Doerges ‘22 had 14 kills and 13 kills respectively. Setter Izzy Seebold ‘22 had 55 assists. The Blue eared an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA DIII Volleyball Championship based on their performance during the 2019 season. They will play Brockport on November 15 in the first round at Potsdam, N.Y. Regional, hosted by Clarkson University. 

Basketball

Last weekend, Wellesley basketball captured the Curry Tip-Off Title after defeating Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in the 2019 Curry College Tip-Off  Tournament. Alyssa Cho ‘21 scored 16 points to lead the Blue to a 55-44 win. Cho along with Caitlin Aguirre ‘20 were named members of the All-Tournament team. Aguirre had 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals for the Blue. Cho was also named NEWMAC Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance at the tournament. The Blue will continue their season on Nov. 19 as they host Wentworth.
