Avery Restrepo ‘20 is the Chair of the Committee for Political and Legislative Awareness. They had Super Tuesday updates running in the background while writing this column. Originally from Fairfield, CT, they’re majoring in International Relations-Political Science and Spanish.
Hey Wellesley! Primary season has been an interesting time to be CPLA Chair. It’s given me much to think about the role and how, as a non-partisan committee, CPLA can work and evolve to better serve the whole campus, and get students access to resources and information that will serve them and frankly be interesting and engaging for all students, regardless of political opinion, while staying timely and relevant. Between CPLA’s future programming still in the works and our involvement with the new #WellesleyVotes initiative, I’m looking forward to seeing where the rest of the semester takes us! On that note, I’d like to use this space to plug three things:
First, if you’re still looking to mail in an absentee ballot, CPLA has materials that can help! (Super Tuesday is not the end! I know, I’m voting in my home state which means April 28th). There are stamps and envelopes in a box in the Lulu Resource Room available for anyone who needs to mail in an absentee ballot or voter registration materials. (Don’t let missing out on the primaries keep you from getting registered for the general)! The box is on the counter near the sink, labeled “CPLA.”
Second, we can’t let midterm season distract us from what else is going on in the world! This Thursday we’re co-sponsoring a panel put on by Japan Club and KSA called “Japan-Korea Fight Club: Warring Over Trade,” featuring Dr. Jung Pak and Dr. Mireya Solis of the Brookings Institution and Wellesley’s Prof. Katherine Moon. It’s on March 5th, from 4:00pm – 5:30pm in Founders 120.
Finally, this coming Saturday, March 7th, we’re hosting our semesterly Trivia Night in the Pub! Starting at 8pm, come share our tab and test your elections trivia mettle! Hope to see you there. Have a good rest of your week folks!
Best,
Avery
