Dining changes presentation
Julie Jordan, resident director of Wellesley Fresh, gave a presentation on what to expect for the dining system in the fall semester. Pomeroy Dining Hall will be permanently closed, and residents of the Quint are encouraged to speak with Dean Horton if they have ideas about how to use the new common space. Kosher, vegan and vegetarian options will be available at Stone-Davis Dining Hall, and Shabbat dinners on Friday evenings will be served at Billings Hall. Stone-Davis will be the only location with fresh-to-go options; all dining halls will have in-person dining. Bae Pao Lu Chow Dining Room will offer halal options every day of the week and will continue to have hot breakfast rather than continental, as it did in the past. Late Night will be reduced to 8-10 p.m. The Gluten Sensitive Room in Bates Dining Hall will be reopening for those who need it. For convenience, the Collins Cafe, the Emporium and the Leaky Beaker will be adding grab-and-go “meal equivalences” that will not require payment. Additionally, the allotment of flex points will be raised from $50 to $75.
Dean’s Corner
Dean Horton reported on this past weekend’s vaccination clinic, revealing that around 300 students took advantage of it to receive their first or second shots. She reminded students to report to the Student Documentation Toolbox when they receive their second shot, as well as to Health Services by emailing them a photo of their vaccination card. Information can be found on the Health Services student portal. Bella Steedly ’24 asked about what COVID restrictions would look like in the fall; Dean Horton responded by saying that a proposal is being put together and needs to be approved by the Senior Operations Team. The only certainty is that testing will continue on campus. Finally, she clarified that Homestead and Instead, the residences that house members of the Sustainability and Feminist co-ops respectively, will not be available for housing by the fall semester, but declined to take questions on the matter at Senate and instead asked that students schedule one-on-one appointments with her to discuss it.
Housing selection presentation
Assistant Director of Student Housing Meghan Todd appeared at Senate to clarify the Fall 2021 housing selection process. To be able to select housing, students must be registered for fall classes, complete the housing intent form by May 21 and complete the housing application by May 25, which will open later this week. By the end of next week, the Housing Browser will be open for students to see which rooms are available; students with pre-approved accommodations will be able to see accessible rooms directly. Preliminary housing selection opens the week of June 1 and general room selection opens the week of June 7. Blocks are not required but are encouraged; bigger blocks will be given priority over smaller blocks. Roommate “speed-dating” will be happening on May 13 and May 16.
