Sophomore Resource Fair

Many sophomore students attended classes remotely for their entire first year. In order to support sophomores that are completely new to campus and those who had only spent one semester at Wellesley before this year, the College held a Sophomore Re-Orientation Resource Fair on Thursday, Sept. 30 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the Lulu Lawn. Over 15 departments were represented at the fair, as well as other resources, such as Career Education, Student Employment, Stone Counseling Center Services and more. 

Thanksgiving Travel Update

On Friday, Oct. 1, President Johnson sent out an announcement to all students regarding the College’s travel policy during this pandemic. Although students are prohibited out-of-state travel, President Johnson clarified that students are allowed to leave the state for Thanksgiving. However, students must receive a flu shot and submit proof of vaccination via Patient Gateway by Nov. 15. Additionally, classes will be held remotely from Monday, Nov. 23 to Wednesday, Nov. 25, and students will have to test three times, instead of twice, that week.

Boston Marathon

For the first time since 2019, the Boston Marathon was held in-person. Last year, the marathon was canceled due to the pandemic, and this year, the field was limited to 20,000 runners. The annual marathon race is usually held on Patriots’ Day, but instead fell on Oct. 11 this year. With the College being the halfway point in the marathon, students followed Wellesley tradition of making signs and cheering on participants as they ran on Central Street past the Quad and Munger Hall. Wellesley students will have another opportunity to cheer on racers this academic year since the Boston Marathon is being held again in spring on Monday, Apr. 18, 2022. 

Dining Halls

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, every dining hall on campus made use of compostable, one-time use plates, cups and utensils for the past year and the start of the fall semester and all of last year. However, on Oct. 6, all dining halls, except for Stone Davis, returned to the more environmentally-friendly option of reusable dishware and silverware used pre-pandemic. Stone Davis is still offering disposable cutlery and plates so students have an option to take meals to-go. Additionally, according to an email from Dean Sheilah Shaw Horton, students may bring their own reusable dishware to take meals to-go from all dining halls.
