HPC Corner
Zoe Owens ’22, HPC liaison, began by announcing the Just Dance themed Lip Sync on Dec. 7. Students should submit their song selections via the link which can be found on residence hall Instagram pages. She also reminded students that health and safety checks are ongoing, and to look out for a form sent via email this week where students should indicate their travel plans for the fall break.
Dean’s Corner
Dean Sheilah Shaw Horton began by addressing the announcement to students made over email this week regarding outdoor campus spaces being reopened to the public. She asked that if students observe members of the public violating any rules, they should call campus police and should not approach them directly.
Orgs Chair Sydney Stearns ’23 and Owens asked how in-room-restrictions will apply to students remaining on campus over the break. Dean Horton replied that those students will test when the centers reopen on Saturday, and be subject to in-room-restriction until they receive a negative test result. She announced that students can expect more information about testing and quarantine protocols in an email this week.
Public Safety Presentation
In the absence of Chief Meshia Thomas, the new director of public safety and chief of police, Dean Horton spoke about the new structure of public safety and Campus Police on College grounds. She explained that the role of Campus Police has been rethought to better coordinate with student life through emergency preparedness and safety education. She encouraged students to continue the practice of calling Campus Police only when necessary and resolving issues of noise complaints and gatherings on an individual-to-individual basis.
Cabinet Announcements
DOOCA Imogene Johnson ’21 began by announcing SBOG’s first open meeting on Nov. 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. She reminded everyone that SBOG will take applications in the spring, and encouraged students interested in event planning to attend the open meeting. Committee for Political Engagement (CPE) Chair Michelle Lee ’23 announced two upcoming lectures this week hosted by the committee: the Texas Abortion Law lecture with Professor Nancy Scherer on Nov. 16 at 4 p.m. in PNE 239 and Lineages of Jihad in Afghanistan lecture with Professor Christopher Candland on November 18 at 4 p.m. at Slater House.
