Pendleton Atrium filled up this evening for a lecture by Professor Ayesha Jalal ’78, hosted by the Wellesley College Association for South Asian Cultures (WASAC). Jalal, a history professor at Tufts University and a Wellesley alum, spoke about her work on famed Indian-born Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto, her grand-uncle. Her book “The Pity of Partition” explores the history of the India-Pakistan divide and the advent of the Cold War in South Asia through the lens of Manto’s stories.

“The tragedy of Manto’s life is in many ways the tragedy of Pakistan,” Jalal said.

Jalal’s forthcoming book is titled “Battle for Pakistan.”
