Boston Bruins (NHL)
The Bruins increased their win-streak to five in a row on Friday defeating the New York Rangers 4-3 at TD Garden in Boston. The Bruins and the Rangers rallied throughout the duration of the game, and it seemed as though the Rangers were going to defeat the Bruins at the start of the third period when the Bruins were trailing 2-3. But, two back-to-back goals scored in the final four minutes of the game by centers Ryan Spooner and David Krejci saved the game for the Bruins. The Bruins gained their final burst of energy after a holding penalty was called on Rangers forward Jesper Fest, which allowed Spooner to tie the game and gave way for his teammate to score the winning goal. This season, the Bruins are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with a record of 13-8-1. The Bruins will face the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 9:30 p.m. at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Canada.
New England Patriots (NFL)
On Sunday, the once-undefeated New England Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos 30-24 in overtime at Sports Authority Field in Denver, Colorado. The Patriots started with an early lead, making it seem that their perfect season would continue with no trouble. However, the Broncos caught up with the Patriots in the fourth quarter after having trailed the Patriots by one touchdown throughout the game. Quarterback Tom Brady threw three touchdowns total; one each to tight end Rob Gronkowski, runningback Brandon Bolden and tight end Scott Chandler. Although the formerly invincible Patriots had not lost a game since Dec. 28, 2014 against the Buffalo Bills, they finally experienced a loss for the 2015-2016 season. But, the Patriots are still ranked first in the AFC and second in the NFL behind the Carolina Panthers, who are the only team with a perfect record this season. The Patriots will play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Dec. 6 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough at 4:25 p.m.
Boston Celtics (NBA)
As of Sunday, the Celtics have maintained a winning record despite losing to the Orlando Magic 91-110 at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida on Sunday. The Celtics have a 9-8 record so far this season making them ranked ninth in the Eastern Conference just behind the Magic and the Atlanta Hawks. Sunday’s loss was especially detrimental to the Celtics’ conference ranking because the Celtics would have been ranked eighth going into this week. However, the Celtics have repeatedly benefitted from acquiring guard Isaiah Thomas this season, as he led the team in points scored and assists in the game against Orlando with 20 points and seven assists. Like other games this season, the Celtics struggled with three-point shots, making only five baskets out of 27 three-point shots. Even though the Celtics are 0-7 this season when their opponents score more than 100 points in a game, they have one of the most successful defenses in the league, forcing an average of 19.5 turnovers per game. The Celtics will play the the Sacramento Kings at Mexico City Arena in Sacramento, California on Thursday, Dec. 3.
