First Ever Online Italian Courses Developed by Wellesley Professors
Wellesley contributed to the first ever offered Italian courses as Massive Online Open Courses through edX. Three levels of Italian courses will be offered through the educational platform, which was developed by Wellesley Italian Language and Culture professors. The initial announcement of WellesleyX and edX came in 2012. WellesleyX’s mission is to “educate women who otherwise would not have the opportunities to receive higher education,” Wellesley College Provost and Dean Andrew Shennan said.
Wellesley Partners with Ashoka University in India
Wellesley signed a partnership with Ashoka University, the “first private Ivy League-caliber liberal arts institution in India.” The university was started by a number of entrepreneurs, including Harshbeena Sahney Zaveri ’82. The goals of the partnership include communication and exchange between faculty and curricula as well as collaboration with the Wellesley Centers for Women and the Madeleine Korbel Albright Institute for Global Affairs.
The Town of Wellesley and the College Launch Collaborative Discussions On Race
The World of Wellesley (WOW), a non-profit organization based in the town of Wellesley that focuses on welcoming diversity, has joined forced with the Partnerships for Diversity and Inclusion at the College for discussion on race throughout the larger community. Several groups will be reading excerpts from “Waking Up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race,” an autobiography by Debby Irving. Robin Chapman, Associate Provost and Academic Director of Diversity and Inclusion says she hopes for at least 1,000 people from the town of Wellesley will participate in the program.
