list of demands

Two members of Ethos, the organization for students of African descent at Wellesley College, presented a list of their demands to the Senate, which were first shared with administration on Dec. 8 during the fall semester. These demands focused on creating a more inclusive campus. Goals included hiring more faculty of African descent outside of the Africana studies department, creating an initiative to recruit more students of African descent and to admit more international students from Africa and the Caribbean. There are various dates by which Ethos hopes the college will have accomplished these goals, some as soon as within 2016.

Senate votes in support of

sustainability initiative

Jay Turner, associate professor of environmental studies and chair of the Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability, presented a sustainability plan last week that will go on to the board of trustees in the spring. Senators showed their support, as a large majority voted in favor of the plan.

BOW representatives work

to increase collaboration

The Wellesley College student representative from the Babson College, Olin College of Engineering and Wellesley Collaboration presented the group’s ideas and plans for the coming semester. Their concerns are primarily regarding a lack of transparency in the cross registration process and inadequate transportation. The student governments of the three schools involved will be meeting to better understand how they can work together and encourage individual student organizations to involve students from other campuses.
