Hi all—
Before Spring Break, I came to you all with a brief snapshot of the programming that College Government President’s Council (CGPC) and CG Cabinet will be working on in the final weeks of April. Today, I’m pleased to extend an invitation to all our students, staff, faculty, and administrators for “Fail-Safe: Redefining Failure”, a week that celebrates nonlinearity, unexpected challenges, and redefined paths both at Wellesley and beyond. It is our hope, and especially mind as CGP, that this week of programs will help bring more honest, community-oriented conversations that will build space for these richer, more thoughtful depictions of success and failure.
For Wednesday, April 20 and Saturday April 23, we’d love your help for these conversations:
1) Wednesday, April 20 from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. will be an event solely dedicated to connecting alums with current students. We’re inviting alums of any year and major to return to campus and join us in open conversation in residential hall neighborhoods on experiences with failure, redirection and unexpected challenges encountered at Wellesley. Alums have been permitted to submit preferences for the neighborhood they’d return to (East Side, Quint, or Tower Complex) and will be joined in conversation with groups of other alums, CG members, HPs, and residential life staff. Because space is limited, we’ll be giving preference to those who submit their forms first to speak at res halls.
2) Saturday, April 23, College Government will be inviting alums, staff, faculty, administrators, and students to come together for an 11 a.m.-1 p.m. community brunch in Alumnae Ballroom. This will be an opportunity for diverse members of our Wellesley community to speak with one another on instances of failure, redirection, and unexpected challenges in post-college life. The focus will be on highlighting unrealistic expectations, lessons learned, and nonlinear paths in post-college life. We also understand that Passover begins on the evening of Friday, April 22 and so recognize that many of our community members may not be able to attend this portion of our week. For those on staff, faculty, or the administrative side who happen to find this column online or in print, we would love to have you and encourage you to reach out to [email protected] if you are interested in participating in this brunch event.
Finally, switching roles to put on my Elections Committee co-Chair hat: I just want to give a quick announcement to everyone on voting in this year’s CG Elections. Active campaigning—defined as any action taken to solicit votes from the student body (such as postering, chalking, posting on social media pages, or urging students to vote for a candidate)— will officially end at the stroke of midnight tonight, Wednesday, April 6. The following morning, voting will open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 7 and will remain open until 8 p.m. that same evening. You’ll have the opportunity to come in-person in the Lulu Student Center and Science Center to cast your vote with EC-members stationed with laptops, and all students will also have the opportunity to cast their ballots online via their Wellesley e-mail.
From there, results will be sent out to the candidates running for election, and an official announcement to all of campus will be made that evening at the Election Results Party, hosted by Elections Committee, in Pendleton East Atrium, from 10-11:30 p.m. With all this said and as we approach Thursday, I encourage everyone at Wellesley to visit the Wellesley College Elections Committee Facebook page, where you’ll be able to locate a compilation of candidates’ statements of intent and social media campaign pages. Remember: seniors, Davis Scholars, and students abroad can (and also should!) vote.
