Interim Dean of Students addresses Dean of Students search and renovations
Interim Dean of Students Carol Bate, the former Assistant Dean of Students, came to present at Senate on Monday during Dean’s Corner. In her report, Dean Bate said the search for the new Dean of Students is progressing well. She told students to be on the lookout for emails regarding meetings with potential candidates. Renovations are taking place in the Freeman Living Room, the Courtyard between Bates, McAfee, and Freeman, Acorns, Harambee House and Houghton Memorial Chapel. The majority of these renovations will be completed by the second half of October, but some will be paused and picked back up after the winter. Policy changes are coming to Wellesley for the “Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy” and the “Service and Assist Animals Policy.” These changes can be found on the Wellesley website and will be circulated to students.
Title IX Coordinator highlights role at Wellesley College
Wellesley’s new Title IX Coordinator, Jacqueline Anchondo, came to present at Senate about her new role at Wellesley College. As Title IX Coordinator, Anchondo addresses concerns of students, faculty and staff regarding issues of sexual misconduct and discrimination. Anchondo encourages students to look at the Title IX page on the Wellesley College website for contact information and a list of resources regarding these issues. In addition, there is an online reporting form on the website for students to submit claims regarding sexual assault and discrimination.
Outing Club announces collaboration with PERA
Maggie Neel ’18, President of the Outing Club, came to Senate to announce Outing Club’s collaboration with Physical Education, Recreation, Athletics (PERA) and Outdoor Nation to encourage Wellesley students to get outside. Students can sign up with the Outdoor Nation App on their smartphones to log outdoor activities which will automatically enter them in contests to win free outdoor gear such as backpacks, water bottles and shoes. If Wellesley students log enough activities, Outdoor Nation will donate gear to PERA for the entire Wellesley College community to use.
Wellesley College institutes new alcohol drug policy
Interim Dean of Students Carol Bate emailed the student body on Sept. 19. The policy was updated in the spring of 2016 and entered into force and was introduced to the incoming Class of 2020 during their orientation. Some changes include further explaining what defines violation of the College’s alcohol and drugs. Causing other individuals to consume alcohol against their will and providing, selling alcohol to anyone over social media and delivering alcohol to individuals under the age of 21 are subject to punishment. Students who violate the violate will be under residential probation.
