Fall ’17 Housing Priority Numbers released
Interim Dean of Students Carol Bate reiterated that housing priority numbers for the Fall ’17 semester are now available on MyWellesley. Priority number ranges for each class are: 130-768 (Class of 2018), 819-1416 (Class of 2019) and 1467-2059 (Class of 2020). Pre-halling and prerooming will occur throughout the month of March. Dean Bate also confirmed that students can block across class years. Due to the high volume of inquiries that Student Housing has received, Dean Bate has advised students to check the Frequently Asked Questions page for Fall Housing selections before emailing. Spring Break dining options made available
Interim Dean of Students Carol Bate drew attention to a new spring break meal plan, which provides brunch and dinner at Bae Pao Lu Chow Dining Hall for the eight days of spring break from March 25 through April 1. The cost of the plan is $140, and financial aid is available to eligible students. Should a student indicate interest, Student Financial Services will contact the student regarding financial aid eligibility. Students working over spring break on campus will also have the option of requesting a bagged lunch. Students interested in the meal plan should fill out the spring break dining survey form, which was emailed to students by Student Housing.
Academic Review Board Presentation
Chandra Boudreau ’17, Amanda Hernandez ’18 and Elizabeth Loizides ’19 talked with Senate about their roles as student representatives on the Academic Review Board (ARB). The ARB is a committee that hears petitions from students for exemption from certain academic policies on a case-by-case basis. Examples of student petitions include taking more than two units of independent study in a single department and dealing with issues of credit transfer for UROPs. Members of the committee, which include class deans and faculty representatives, will then vote on whether to accept the student’s petition. Students are voting members of the committee and serve as an active voice for the students. In addition, the ARB also acts as a soundboard for academic policies and provides the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy (CCAP) with feedback based on trends that have been seen in student petitions. In response to a question on whether the ARB has the ability to respond to student complaints over the credit/noncredit deadline, Boudreau responded that making academic policy is not under the jurisdiction of ARB but rather under that of the CCAP and the Registrar.
Students introduce new Wellesley Fresh App
Senator Huzaifa Ejaz ’20 and Audrey Seo ’20 introduced Seo’s new Wellesley Fresh application, which provides menu information as well as opening hours for each dining hall. The app is currently only available on iOS. Seo said that future features for the app include the ability to compare menus, request bagged lunches and rate dishes. Ejaz encouraged senators to help in the process of adding these new features by connecting with relevant departments and groups. Senators raised suggestions such as developing an Android version of the app and including options to filter dining options by dietary restrictions and allergies.
