The weekend of Oct. 14 was a big one for Wellesley Blue’s cross country and golf teams.
Wellesley’s cross Ccuntry travelled to Smith College for the annual Seven Sisters Championship race on Saturday, where the team finished runner-up with three top-five finishers. Isabella King ’18 won the race with a time of 23:56.39. She became just the 7th Wellesley runner to finish the race in first place, and the first since the 2015 season. Coincidentally, she is the second Wellesley winner to have the last name ‘King,’ since Jessica King ran to a first-place finish in 1994. Taylor Mahlandt ’20 finished just behind King with a time of 24:04.13, while Ava Shipman ’21 finished in 5th place after running a 24:16.23. All three runners earned First Team All-Seven Sisters honors.
Additionally, Ryan MacVicar ’20 led Blue Golf to a win over Division I Holy Cross in their last home match of the season on Saturday. MacVicar finished the day +4 over par, beating Holy Cross’ Maxine Harney by one stroke. Wellesley’s Rosey Li ’21 tied for 3rd place with a score of 81, while Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino ’20 finished in 5th place after shooting an 82. This match wraps up a successful fall season for the Golf team. The team will continue to train through the winter in preparation for their championship season in the spring.
