Hi Sibs,
Happy November! CG has been thoughtfully working on numerous action items throughout this semester.
Using the feedback from discussions in Senate, CG is structuring an ad-hoc committee tasked with looking at spaces that can be revitalized for student use. This committee will create a ballot initiative specifically to inquire about possible student use of the old Café Hoop space in Billings. An executive senator will chair the ad-hoc committee and will be advised by CG Cabinet for resources and support.
I am also excited to announce our next CG Town Hall centered on the Multicultural Requirement next Thursday, Nov. 16 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Tishman Commons. Multicultural Affairs Coordinator (MAC) Dina Al-Zu’bi ’19 has been in discussion with the Committee on Curriculum and Academic Policy (CCAP) to consider changes to the Multicultural Requirement as it exists as a distribution requirement. We invite you all to attend and have this discussion alongside CCAP members and other administrative representatives.
In our most recent Senate, we elected Kira Hamilton ’21 to the position of historian for the academic year! Her work will be closely tied to preserving institutional memory and reviewing memory from previous years. Our executive senator from Cazenove Hall, Grace Bernard ’18, is embarking on an action item related to preserving institutional memory and regaining access to memory from years prior. Their work is closely related so if you are interested in getting involved, please do not hesitate to reach out to them.
Some other updates from CG include:
Student Bursar Natalie Jin ’18 presented recommendations for policy changes that SOFC is exploring on Oct. 23 and we will be hearing feedback on these changes from constituencies and voting on these policies this coming Monday, Nov. 13.
Director of On-Campus Affairs (DOOCA) Paige Cheatham ’18 is leading SBOG in hosting the Fall Concert featuring Mitski on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Tishman Commons. There will be an after-party in Punch’s Alley—with a tab!—from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. We hope to see you there!
CG Cabinet and three Senator Representatives—Huzaifa Ejaz ’20, Faiza Aslam ’19, and Kira Hamilton ’21—will be attending the Seven Sisters Conference at Mount Holyoke this weekend and will be presenting what they learn from other College Governments at Senate next week as well.
Take care of yourselves, and until next time,
Maryam
