Two new SOFC policy changes pass

Senate passed two policy changes proposed by SOFC. In two weeks, the e-board retreat cap of $10 will come into effect as will the more lenient rules for numbers justification. Although the $10 cap per person has no appeal, it is guaranteed. The policies are known as the Numbers Justification and Eboard Policy, respectively. During the next two weeks, any student that objects to the changes can request a referendum vote to occur during the next Senate.

Seven Sisters Conference overview

Senators Faiza Aslam ’19 and Huzaifa Ejaz ’20 presented a broad overview of the Seven Sisters College Government Conference that they attended at Mount Holyoke with other Wellesley College Government representatives on Nov. 11 and 12. Based on what they learned at the conference,  the representatives would like to introduce a Building on Our Own Momentum (BOOM) conference. Mount Holyoke holds BOOM in order to inform the college staff and faculty about the intersectionality of students. BOOM is similar to Tanner in that the students have the day off in order to participate in the conference. The representatives will meet later to discuss what a Wellesley version of the conference would look like.

Senate appoints Executive Senators to ad-hoc committee on social life

Executive Senators Crystalina Guo ’20 and Huzaifa Ejaz ’20 were appointed to co-chair an ad-hoc committee dedicated to investigating spaces on campus that can be reconstituted as social spaces for students. Guo and Ejaz tentatively plan on establishing teams within the committee to address different issues. These teams will be open to members of the student community at large. The downstairs space of Billings has been proposed by students during the CG-HPC Town Hall on Social Life that took place on Oct. 5.
