Over spring break, members of the golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis and crew teams were hard at work representing the Wellesley Blue in training trips and competitions.
The golf team travelled to Tampa, Florida to compete in the Centre College Invitational. The squad tallied a total of 721 strokes during the two-day invitational and finished fourth out of the six schools in attendance. Devyani Kalra ’21 competed as an individual and tallied 176 strokes, finishing in a tie for 12th place overall. This score made her the highest finisher for the Wellesley Blue in this competition. The team now looks towards the Vassar Invitational, which will take place on April 14 and 15.
Wellesley’s lacrosse team remained in the northeast over break and competed in seven matches. The squad lost all of these games, leaving them with a record of 0-9 overall and 0-3 in the New England Women’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). The Blue currently sits at the bottom of the NEWMAC league, but will have the opportunity to face third place Wheaton College at home on Wednesday, April 11. Senior Day will also take place on Saturday, April 11 with a conference matchup against Mount Holyoke College.
Members of the softball team also travelled to Tampa, where they competed in nine non-conference matches. The team lost six of these nine matches, but earned three wins against Colby College, Middlebury College and Union College. The squad then returned to Wellesley to face Emerson College and Babson College in its first conference games of the season. The Blue currently holds a record of 4-9 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC, where it sits in second to last place. The team will face sixth place Springfield College in an away game on Wednesday, April 4.
The Wellesley tennis team travelled to Southern California to compete in five non-conference matches. The team defeated California Lutheran University, Lewis and Clark College and Whittier College, but fell to Cerritos College in the final match of the trip. The squad currently holds a record of 8-5 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC league. The Blue will face Wheaton College at home for a conference matchup on Sunday, April 8.
Wellesley’s crew team did not compete over spring break, but its members travelled to Clemson, South Carolina for a training trip. The team will begin its spring season on April 7 with a race against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Williams College and Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges at the Charles River.
