Members of Wellesley’s golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis, crew and track and field teams had a busy week concluding their 2018 campaigns and preparing for league championships.
On April 21 and 22, the golf team travelled to Amherst, Mass. to compete in the Jack Leaman Invitational. The Blue tallied a total of 691 strokes in the two-day tournament and finished sixth out of the seven teams in attendance. The team will travel to Canton, N.Y. this weekend to compete in the 2018 Liberty League Championships.
Wellesley Lacrosse travelled to Coast Guard College on Wednesday, April 18 to compete in a conference matchup. Wellesley lost 17-10. On Saturday, April 21, the Blue had another conference game at Springfield College. The final score was 20-4 in favor of the Spirit. Wellesley currently holds a record of 1-14 and sits in second-to-last place in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Given the current standings, Wellesley will not be one of the six teams awarded a spot in the 2018 NEWMAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The team will conclude its 2018 campaign this afternoon with a home game against Emerson College.
Wellesley Softball travelled to Brandeis University on Wednesday, April 18 for a series of non-conference matches. They lost both of the games 9-2 and 4-2. On Friday, April 21, Wellesley hosted the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for a series of conference matches. WPI prevailed in both games, defeating Wellesley 4-2 and 10-1. The Blue concluded its 2018 campaign on Saturday, April 21 in hosting Clark College for its annual Senior Day. Wellesley came out victorious and defeated Clark 1-0 and 2-0. However, these victories were not enough to earn the Blue a spot in the 2018 NEWMAC Women’s Softball Championship. The team finished with an overall record of 9-22 and shares the seventh place spot in the NEWMAC with Wheaton College.
On Saturday, April 21, Wellesley’s tennis team traveled to Mount Holyoke College for a conference matchup. The Blue defeated the Paws with a final score of 6-3. Wellesley currently boasts an overall record of 12-7 and holds the third place slot in the NEWMAC. The squad is currently in the running for a place in the 2018 NEWMAC Women’s Tennis Championship.
Wellesley Track and Field competed in the Aloha Relays at Bowdoin College on Saturday, April 21. The squad finished fourth out of the eight colleges in attendance. The team will travel to Springfield College this Saturday for the 2018 Women’s Track and Field Championship.
Wellesley’s crew team did not participate in any regattas this week. However, the Blue will travel to Worcester, Mass. this Saturday to compete in the 2018 NEWMAC Women’s Rowing Championship.
