Considering Applying to Law School?
On Wednesday Oct. 10, Career Services held a workshop titled, “Considering Applying to Law School?” The event was open to all Wellesley students and alumnae who are considering pursuing a degree in law. Pre-law advisor Emma Cuturfello and Sarah Jean Kelly ’05, JD moderated the workshop. They discussed the law school admissions process, provided statistics and trends from the 2017-2018 application cycle, and offered students advice on their applications.
A Very Wellesley Weekend
This past weekend (Oct. 12-15), the Wellesley Community celebrated the third annual “Very Wellesley Weekend.” Alumnae, prospective students and family members of current students were invited to campus to attend one or more of the major events that took place over the weekend. These events include the Alumnae Achievement Awards, Discover Wellesley Weekend, Family Weekend and the Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame.
On Friday Oct. 12, the Wellesley College Alumnae Association (WCAA) presented the Alumnae Achievement Award to public health expert Camara Jones ’76 and quantum astrophysicist Nergis Mavalvala ’90. The Alumnae Achievement Award is considered the highest alcolade a Wellesley graduate can receive from the college. Recipients of the award have brought honor to themselves and Wellesley College through their achievements.
The “Discover Wellesley Weekend” began on Sunday Oct. 14 and ended the following day. Prospective students were invited to explore Wellesley by staying with current students, eating at the dining halls and attending classes. Additionally, the college held several events and activities for the prospective students and their families. One of these events was a panel titled, “Why Wellesley: Perspectives of Current Students and Alumnae.”
Family and friends of current Wellesley students were invited to campus from Oct. 12-14 for “Family Weekend.” Family members got to experience Wellesley by attending classes and eating in the dining halls with their loved ones. The college also organized several fun events for students and their family members, including smores at the Lulu fire pit.
On Sunday Oct. 13, Wellesley College Athletics inducted seven alumnae to the Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame. Wellesley College Athletics held a dinner for the awardees and invited them to speak about their past experiences with college athletics. The newly inducted hall-of-famers include: Katie Antypas ’99 (Volleyball), Marret Arfsten ’03 (Field Hockey), Sarah Hilgenberg ’00 (Soccer), Elizabeth T. Jordan ’59 (Swimming), Jennifer Kegel ’88 (Cross Country),Amy Ayres Parratto ’83 (Diving) and Louise O’Neal, the Director of Athletics and Department Chair from 1990-2006.
Office of International Studies and LGBTQ Services Partner for Pannel
In honor of LGBTQ history month, the Office of International Studies (OIS) is partnering with LGBTQ Programs and Services to host a panel titled, “Queer Perspectives on Study Abroad Panel.” The event will take place at 4 p.m. this evening (Oct. 17) in Acorns. Those who attend the panel will hear about the experiences of Queer students who studied abroad in Sweden, Jordan, Germany, Japan and Italy.
