Wellesley students were in for a surprise this week after Wednesday night’s snowstorm. On Thursday morning, Tower Court was suddenly home to a voluptuous snow woman with curves that would make Marilyn Monroe jealous.

Many students were happy to see some snow person diversity. Emily Casper ’19 said “Honestly, all snowmen pretty much look the same. It’s refreshing to see someone who looks like me out there.”

Others, like Jenna Schuman ’20, were less thrilled. “I mean, we already have enough unrealistic expectations for women’s bodies to deal with in advertisements, movies, even celebrities who have extensive plastic surgery. Now we have to live up to this snow woman too? Where does it end?”

Neither Schuman nor Casper could be reached for further comment, as they’d become stuck in a flame war in “Wellesley Memes for Grade Deflated Teens.” As of print time, the original post had over 200 comments.

Some students applied a political reading to the snow sculpture. Shannon Anderson ’22, a prospective WGST major, viewed the creation as an unambiguous feminist statement. “This is really the most important kind of activism I can imagine right now,” she said. Sandra Lu ’19 instead saw an environmental message. “The creator obviously wanted us to think about the impacts of our actions on the environment. The melting snow woman on an unseasonably warm February day is warning sign that we’ll all be in danger soon if we don’t enact the Green New Deal!”

The creator of the snow woman remains anonymous, so the real meaning is anyone’s guess.
