Committee constitution amendments
Both the Applied Representatives Committee (ARC) and Schneider Board of Governors (SBOG) presented updates to their constitutions, which are scheduled to be voted on at the next senate meeting on Oct. 7. ARC, which was created out of the Student Organization Appointment Committee (SOAC), was formed during the spring of 2019 and has written a new constitution due to the current absence of one. The committee’s main focus is to “promote diverse student perspectives in administrative and faculty spaces” by appointing students to a plethora of committees related to administrative business and campus life. Applications for the committees are open to all students throughout the fall of 2019. SBOG has also proposed several constitutional updates as their constitution was last amended in 2012. The changes include new leadership structures, updated officer descriptions and a revised code of conduct, among several other things.
Dean’s report
Dean Sheila Horton, Vice President and Dean of Student Life, announced that residential life would be doing their semesterly health and safety checks in tandem with facilities. Dean Horton announced that the purpose of the safety checks was to look for various health and safety issues, as well as fire safety violations. The inspections are scheduled as follows: Tower Court, Severance, Claflin, Lake House and Casa Cervantes on Wednesday, Oct. 2 – 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Cazenove, Beebe, Shafer, Pomeroy and Munger on Thursday, Oct. 3 – 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and, French, Cedar, East Side, Dower, Stone Davis, and Simpson West on Friday, Oct. 4 – 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Additionally, Dean Horton updated the Senate on the new health services transition, emphasizing that only appointments pertaining to urgent illness should be scheduled online, while routine check-ins should be scheduled over the phone.
Historian elections
College Government held elections for the positions of Historian, an official who acts as a liaison between CG, archives and Academic Council Representatives. The historian is a representative body for faculty members, and discusses issues ranging from shadow grading to confirmation of student honors. Amy Rose ’23 was elected for the position of Historian, and Savannah Roth ’22, Anna Bollman ’23, Caroline Francois ’23 and Alexandria Brooks ’23 were elected as student representatives to the ACR.
