Hi sibs! Have you ever felt really passionate about something you would like to change on campus but been unsure what to do about it? As Wellesley students, we’re lucky to have student representatives sitting on a large portion of the administrative committees of the college. This includes the Board of Trustees committees and the Academic Council committees, which both make a lot of decisions that affect student life. Issues like grade deflation, distribution requirements and divestment from fossil fuels have all been discussed in these groups, and students have been present to represent our interests. None of these issues are easy or quick to change, but the best way to set things into motion is to reach out to the students who represent us on these committees and talk to them. The Appointed Representative Committee (ARC) will be working this semester to update the CG website with the contacts of all the current student representatives. In the meantime, you can email me ([email protected]) if you would like to contact any student who sits on a committee. Student representatives are eager to know student opinions on different topics because they can use it to better advocate for campus-wide needs, so feel free to reach out to them if there’s anything on your mind!

I know that it can be really tiring to feel like we face the same problems on campus year after year, and that it sometimes feels like a lot of student effort is needed before we can have change. But students have done so much this year already, and that makes me really hopeful for what we can accomplish as a campus. Cabinet specifically has been focused on our roles as liaisons between the student body and the administration and how we can more directly communicate with Senior Leadership about campus life. I’m really hopeful for this semester and I’m grateful to be able to work with the rest of Cab on the productive changes we want to make to the way that CG advocates for our constituencies.
