Hello Fellow Wellesley Students,
My name is Merete Ogah (she/her), class of ‘25 and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for College Government Vice President (CGVP).
One of the main responsibilities of the CGVP is being the chair of the Appointed Representatives Committee (ARC). This committee holds a pivotal role in bridging the gap between students and college administration by appointing representatives from diverse backgrounds to various committees. Currently serving on the Appointed Representatives Committee (ARC), I have actively contributed to appointing students to committee seats and have streamlined the appointment process. Through this experience, I have gained invaluable insight into the core responsibilities of the CGVP, particularly in understanding the importance of student engagement and facilitating improved communication between Wellesley committees and the wider student body. In addition to being part of ARC, my experiences as a Community Inclusion Facilitator (CIF) and senator for WASA have also helped prepare me for this position.
My primary objectives as CGVP are threefold:
First, I aim to enhance student involvement and representation within the College Government. To achieve this, I intend to focus on revitalizing the role of the Appointed Representatives Committee (ARC) and ensuring that it serves as a platform for students to actively participate in decision-making processes that directly affect their academic and extracurricular experiences.
Secondly, I am dedicated to increasing transparency within the College Government by establishing clear communication channels between committees and students. All too often, students are left uninformed about the inner workings of committees and the decisions they make. As CGVP, I will champion regular updates and reports from committee representatives, ensuring students are kept informed of ongoing initiatives, projects, and decisions influencing their college journey.
Finally, I am committed to empowering student representatives and ensuring that they feel fulfilled within their positions. I recognize the dedication and hard work that student representatives invest in serving their peers, and I will strive to create a supportive environment where their efforts are acknowledged and appreciated. As CGVP, I will establish regular check-ins and feedback sessions with student representatives to understand their needs, address any concerns they may have, and provide opportunities for professional development and growth.
My candidacy for College Government Vice President is grounded in a steadfast commitment to serving the needs and interests of our college community. I am confident in my ability to effectively execute the responsibilities of CGVP and to leave a meaningful and enduring impact.
Thank you and vote for me to be your 2024-2025 College Government Vice President!
Sincerely,
Merete Ogah
