Ballot initiative information announced
Ballot initiatives must be presented to Senate before March 14, 2016. The ballots and their creators must be inclusive of the entirety of the student body, must be able to be enacted in one year, must announce all meetings and cannot impede the college infrastructure. To be eligible for presentation, ballot initiatives must have a petition with support of five percent of the student body; a leadership structure with a president and a secretary; a plan of action; the support of three senators from three separate organizations, one of whom must be an executive senator; a budget plan; and a maintenance plan. After the presentations, Senate will vote on what issues to include on the ballot. The remaining initiatives’ statement of intents and campaign finance plans are due by March 20 . One representative from each committee must attend an information session, where they will sign a contract. To be enacted, a ballot initiative must receive a majority of the vote, over 50 percent. If no ballot wins the majority, the funds will return to the contingency fund.
Fresh Check Day announced
Multicultural Affairs Coordinator Ananya Ghemawat ’17 announced that Wellesley College’s first Fresh Check Day will take place next week on March 9 from 12:30-3:30 p.m., Multicultural Affairs Coordinator Ananya Ghemawat announced. Fresh Check Day is a wellness fair that will take place in Tishman Commons. Booths will include a variety of activities regarding mental health, and its aim is to prevent suicide, reduce stigma regarding mental health, and increase awareness about mental health, amongst many other issues. There will also be a raffle during the fair, and with prizes such as El Table gift cards. Additionally, the Paws for Wellness dogs will make an appearance and there will be a s’more making event at the fire pit.
Dean Wolfson announces changes to housing policy
Guidelines for next year’s student housing will be shared this week via class Google Groups. Changes in housing policy include blocking. In a change from previous semesters, students who plan to block with each other will have their lottery numbers averaged. Housing forms and lottery numbers will be released in the coming weeks on MyWellesley.
