A Wellesley resident has been charged in connection with the deaths of her two children, according to authorities in Massachusetts and Vermont.
Earlier, the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Wellesley resident Janette MacAusland, 49, on two counts of murder. MacAusland is currently being held in Vermont and is expected to appear in Bennington County Superior Court on Monday, April 27.
According to officials, Wellesley Police conducted a welfare check at a home on Edgemoor Avenue Friday night after receiving a request from a Vermont police department. Upon entering the residence, officers found her two children, aged six and seven, deceased inside the home.
The two children were students in Wellesley Public Schools. In a public statement, Superintendent Davis Lussier said the district was “devastated” by the loss and is preparing support services for students, staff and families.
“At this time, there is no risk to the community,” officials said in a news release.
Authorities have not yet released the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing. Further details, including the circumstances surrounding their deaths, have not yet been made public.
The case is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police along with the Wellesley Police.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
