This past weekend, for the first time ever, SBOG collaborated with Wellesley Athletics to bring us a very Sboggy Earn the W day!! Lacrosse and Tennis both played games on campus, in Butler Stadium and the the Amy Batchelor ’88 Courts. The day was full of fun, sun and popcorn, and our teams played some fantastic competitions.
First up, Tennis played Smith at 12 p.m. Tennis has been having a great season so far, with a 7-4 record heading into the weekend’s competition. All three doubles teams took victories to start the match; Kriti Sarav ’27 and first-year Luna Bian kicked off the competition with a 6-2 win, followed by Emilee Pak ’26 and Suzanne Xu ’27 who won 6-4 and Rianna Mariotti ’28 and Nandni Patel ’28, who came through to win 6-4 as well. Bian, Xu and Sarav also won their respective singles matches, bringing the total score to 5-2 after only a couple of close Wellesley losses.
Next, Lacrosse took to the field at 1 p.m., also taking on conference rival Smith. The game was neck-and-neck until the third quarter, with goals from first-year Milica Simic and sophomores Charlotte Petersen-Kopman and Amelia Woodard bringing the heat for the Blue. First-year Eliza Wysong took 6 draw controls throughout the game. In the end, the score was 16-9 Smith, but the Blue played a fantastic game and celebrated their three seniors: Ella Kim, Tamasyn Hill and goalie AB Patrick, who recorded 13 saves in the match.
The lacrosse game was highlighted by a thrilling halftime show: a race between Wellesley’s three mascots. The OSI duck, the SBOG frog and the wellness goose lined up on the 25 yard line for an all-out sprint to the 50 yard line a few minutes into the break. The crowd was skeptical towards the Goose’s ability to run, and nearly everyone’s money was on the SBOG frog, who was perhaps the least hindered by their suit. In the end, the frog did in fact hop to an easy victory, as the goose struggled to keep up and the duck was disqualified due to a false start.
Thanks to SBOG and Wellesley Athletics’ efforts and the hard work of our teams, Earn the W Day was a massive success.
