Hello Wellesley,
Welcome back to another year of the President’s Corner! It is truly an honor to be able to take up the mantle from my predecessor, Kimberly Chia Yan Min ’19. I hope to utilize this platform to share some of my personal reflections on College Government’s work, increase my team’s visibility and help grow the accessibility of information.
My vision for College Government this year is wholly based on community building. My past three years in Senate, various College Government committees and other wider-campus work has taught me that our student body is not at a loss of ideas for change. However, it is difficult for us to endeavor for sustainable community change, without first creating a sense of community. In this regard, I have begun the year with outreach initiatives to different stakeholders of our community, the Office of the President, the Office of Intercultural Education and House President’s Council, among several others. Speaking with different adults and students who spent just as much time, if not more, thinking critically about the student experience as College Government was extremely energizing and really helped me see the extent of the term “community.”
In terms of programming, this year’s College Government Cabinet (listed below) has successfully kicked off another string of traditional fall College Government events. In the first two weeks of the school year, our team has already initiated and led over four campus-wide events. This year’s Director of On-Campus Affairs, Bella Virgilio ’20, and her team at the Schneider Board of Governors staffed and planned a fun and impressive Lake Day and Remix. Sarah Sansón Hernández ’21, this year’s Organizations Chair, helped connect first-year students to broader College communities through the annual Orgs Fair. These are only a few examples of the work that we are engaged in, there is definitely more to come!
If you can, please consider attending the first Senate of the year on Monday, Sept. 23 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Academic Council room. Senate is meant to be a community forum, and our most interesting conversations have always occurred when more voices are at the table!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to lead, and best of luck with the school year. As a reference, I’m listing the names of this year’s Cabinet below, please wave hello if you ever need anything!
