Dean Horton announces upcoming events around school

Dean Horton informed students about Depression Awareness Month and encouraged them to keep a lookout for any symptoms their friends or colleagues may exhibit and provide them with any help they need to combat depression. She also announced that this Halloween, students cannot only Trick or Treat at the President’s House but also the Deans houses. This measure will foster a more close relationship between students and administration, and contribute to a tight-knit Wellesley community.

Science Center Water Line Construction will begin this week

The installation of the Water Line will start this upcoming Wednesday, and will be done in three phases. The first and second phase will commence in front of Health Services and Stone Center, while the third phase will connect the pipeline to the waterway. It is estimated that the first and second phase will take approximately 10-12 days. This will hinder students from getting to Health services, which is why there will be pedestrian detours in place to keep students out of harm’s way at the construction site.

Debate about Grading Policy continues

Senate has reopened the debate on the grading policy of Wellesley College, started at Convocation, as they invite students and senators to elucidate on their opinions and understanding of the grading policy. Many senators voiced concerns about the grading policy fostering a negative impact on group collaborations among students and an overall environment of unnecessary, hostile competition. The issue of the grading policy negatively impacting students of color and international students was also a major topic discussed by the Senate, as the Senate believes this will hinder the inclusivity initiative at Wellesley. The debate will continue throughout this semester and Senate hopes that students at large will participate in it actively.
