On Oct. 5, the Stardew Valley: Symphony of Seasons orchestra performed in Boston. Symphony of Seasons is the second iteration of the Stardew Valley concert series, with Festival of Seasons occurring in 2023. While the Stardew Valley creator, ConcernedApe, was not able to attend this event, a video played on the screen behind the orchestra of the creator greeting the audience.
Every member of the 35-piece orchestra (including a banjo) that performed the music from the beloved video game was from the Boston area. They played an arrangement of the game’s soundtrack that took the audience through a full year in the valley, as well as specific romantic events with some of the beloved non-player characters (NPCs), the Wizard Tower, the Mermaid Boat and even Ginger Island.
The screen placed behind the orchestra showed gameplay of a player’s first year in Stardew Valley, albeit with exaggerated progression. Some songs also had drawn graphics take the place of the gameplay, both in a Ghibli-inspired style for the farm and docks and a more cutesy drawing for the completion of the Community Center. They made sure to highlight some fan-favorite optional scenes as well, like choosing to put Mayor Lewis’ shorts in the soup at the Luau event.
The concert was clearly made and arranged out of love for the community, and the community showed their love in return with rounds of applause during every possible break in the music. The conductor’s ability to engage with the audience was also wonderful, highlighting the amazing support they’ve received, the wonderful performers and some great local restaurants he was able to try. There was also a vote at the beginning as people filed in for the audiences’ favorite character — the winner was Krobus, a shadow person who lives in the sewers (though players can choose to make him a roommate instead of choosing a romantic partner). Evidently, Krobus has been voted audience favorite at pretty much every other stop on the tour, likely in part due to split votes between romanceable options.
The concert ended with a performance of the visit to The Summit, a location only available in-game to those who have acquired perfection, and the final cutscene played to conclude the show and commemorate the audience members who have reached this milestone.
Symphony of Seasons was a wonderful experience, and I loved sitting in the theatre and getting to hear live the music that accompanied me throughout so many late nights at my desk.
They are still touring within the United States until March 2026, with the next closest date being Feb. 24, 2026 in Providence, RI.
